SMS Templates

How to create reusable text message templates.

SMS templates let you save the texts you send most often, then drop them into a conversation in two clicks. They work just like message templates, only for text messages instead of email.

Table of Contents

Before you start

To send a text from Honeit, two things need to be in place:

  • You need a Honeit phone number. If you don't have one yet, email us at support@honeit.com and we'll set you up.

  • The contact record needs a phone number. You can add or update it on the contact's Details tab.

You can create and share templates without either of these. You'll just need both before you can send.

Where to find SMS Templates

Navigate to ManageSMS Templates.

Your templates are organized into two tabs:

  • My Library for templates you created.

  • Team Library for templates shared across your team.

Use the search bar to find a template by name or tag, and sort by name or last updated.

Creating an SMS template

Click + Create, then enter:

  • Name of the template, for example "Call Follow Up."

  • Description so you and your teammates know when to use it.

  • Tags (optional) to keep a growing library easy to search.

  • Message, your text, up to 1,600 characters.

Inside the message box you can add an emoji or insert your signature using the icons above the field. Click Save when you're done. You can view, edit or add to your library anytime.

Personalizing your text with placeholders

Placeholders let one template greet every candidate by name. Click the tag icon above the message box and pick one to drop it in at your cursor. Honeit fills in the real value when you send the text.

For example, opening with "Hi %contactfirstname%" turns into "Hi Maria" when the text goes out.

Contact

  • %contactfirstname%

  • %contactlastname%

  • %contactfullname%

  • %contactheadline%

  • %contactlocation%

You / Company

  • %yourfirstname%

  • %yourlastname%

  • %yourfullname%

  • %companyname%

Hot Tip: Placeholders only work if the contact record has that information filled in. Lead with %contactfirstname% and use the others where a blank wouldn't be awkward.

Sharing templates with your team

Click the three-dot menu to the right of any template in My Library and choose Add to Team Library. Your teammates can then use it from their own Team Library tab, just like call guides and message templates.

Using a template to text a contact

  1. Open the contact record.

  2. Click the Messages tab, then select Text.

  3. Choose your template from the Select an SMS template... dropdown.

  4. The message loads into the text box, where you can edit it before sending.

  5. Click Send.

The full text history with that contact stays in the same view, so you always have context before you reply.

About SMS delivery

Honeit reviews SMS templates before they're saved to help identify content that may be flagged as spam.

Mobile carriers actively filter SMS traffic to protect recipients from unwanted messages. These checks help identify content patterns that could increase the risk of carrier filtering or blocking and improve the likelihood that your messages reach the intended party.

A few habits that keep your texts landing:

  • Introduce yourself and your company in your first text so candidates know who's reaching out.

  • Write in plain sentences. ALL CAPS, rows of exclamation points and emoji-heavy text read as promotional.

  • Keep links minimal. One link is fine. Use your Honeit scheduling link rather than a shortened URL.

  • Skip promotional language, especially anything about money, offers or urgency.

  • Give candidates an easy out, for example "Reply STOP if you'd rather not get texts."

Because carrier filtering happens outside Honeit, delivery can never be guaranteed for any sender. These checks are there to give your messages the best chance of getting through.
